No, you didn't miss a Macworld product announcement. Rather, another company is laying claim to the iChat trademark, and producing the text communicators you see above for children. They were part of the holiday print catalog for YoungExplorers.com By the way, it looks like a fine catalog for unusual toys. The devices feature SMS instant messages, that can be sent "up to 35 feet away!" Yes, why talk to one another when you can send a text? Teach them young, I suppose. Oh, we've just intercepted the first message sent by Apple Legal to manufacturer: u r sued.

Happy New Year, To All.. Even Zune Owners

Farewell, 2008. Hello, 2009. The first thing that comes to mind as we ring in the new year, (Besides the hilarious-unless-its-happening-to-you freeze up of 30GB Zunes) is that we're one year closer to 2011. I don't need to tell you why that's Armageddon. Oh, I do? Because that's the next year without to zeroes with which those wacky New Year's glasses can be made. Those could be bleak times, indeed.

But that's for another day. For now, Happy New Year, and thank you for being part of our first full year of The Digital Lifestyle. We're looking forward to a year of fun new stories, shows, and re-designs to make TDL better.

Would this make you get braces?

When I was a kid, my parents (rightly) wanted me to get braces. They took me to an orthodontist whose reverse psychology changed the path of my life. "I can't put braces on a kid who doesn't want them. If you're not ready to have your teeth all straight, I won't do it. Are you ready?" "Nope," was my reply. And just like that, the whole thing was over.

Driving to the TDL headquarters today though, I was struck by this billboard:

Apple, I want you to look at Adobe. Adobe, look at Apple. Now both of you have been misbehaving lately. Adobe, there's no need to upset the Apple faithful by claiming there won't be 64bit support in most Adobe apps anytime soon. Apple, shame on you for pinning Safari quits on Adobe (see image above)

Apple: "People prefer QuickTime anyhow."
Adobe: "Oh yeah, then why do I have an installed base of nearly 98% of all computers?"
Apple: "Oh yeah, well QuickTime powers iTunes, the world's biggest online music store!"
Adobe: "Yeah, and you have to use Photoshop to make the graphics because Aperture's stinky!"
Apple: "Aperture isn't for making graphics, stupid."
Adobe: "Fine. I'll just develop my apps for the PC only!"
